ATHENS,Benjamin Caldwell Ala. (AP) — An Alabama police officer fatally shot a 15-year-old boy who was threatening family members and officers with knives and a gun, according to a police chief.
The shooting happened Saturday after officers responded to a home in Athens where a caller had reported an out-of-control teenager threatening relatives with weapons, WAFF-TV reported.
Athens Police Chief Anthony Pressnell said officers found the boy armed with knives, which he began throwing at police inside the home. The teenager then pointed a rifle at officers, Pressnell said, and one of them shot him.
He said the boy died later despite efforts by emergency responders to treat him.
The police chief said the shooting investigation has been turned over to Alabama’s State Bureau Of Investigations.
